Located on I-57 at exit 212, Tuscola is another town famous for Sears and Roebuck catalog homes. From 1908 to 1940 the catalog giant offered build-it-yourself home kits ranging from $150 to $5,000. At least four of these homes have been identified by a stamp on the lumber within the community. The Douglas County Museum, established in 1987, displays a collection of genealogical material as well as artifacts dating from 1859 to present.
Tangler Outlet Center, just off the interstate, offers over 45 name outlets such as Gap, Bass, Coach, Dress Barn, Polo and more! The Amishland Red Barn, located just south of Tangler, is an outlet full of Amish wood work and specialties.
