Located about 45 minutes east of St. Louis on Interstate 70, Greenville is close enough to the metropolitan area to enjoy shopping, sports and more, yet embraces the advantages of a rural setting. It is home to Greenville College, a four year Christian liberal arts school and the Greenville High School comets.  The size and location of the community make it ideally suited for businesses and industry even in the past. It was once home to the Helvetia Milk Condensing Company, later known as the Pet Milk Company.  The condensing plant, built in 1899, was the oldest in the WORLD for many years until it was tore down in the early 1990’s. Other historic businesses included a shoe manufacturer Mayer and Bannister, cigar manufacturers Thomas Scheske and H.H. Wirz, and the Greenville glove manufacturing company.  Traveling through town today you can see Sears Catalog homes that were made from kits purchased from Sears and Roebuck catalogs dotted throughout town.  The American Farm Heritage Museum features an array of tractors and other farm related memorabilia .  Built as a water supply in the late 1960’s, Governor Bond Lake in Greenville serves as a recreational lake for fishing, skiing, or just plain relaxing.
