What do Interstate 70 exit 119, state route 121 and 130 and U.S. Route 40 all have in common? Greenup Illinois! The town’s name originates from William C. Greenup, the National Road surveyor who was hired to supervise the construction of the National Road in Illinois stretching from Marshall to Vandalia.
Greenup is also known as the “Village of Porches” because of the overhanging porches that beckon you as you stroll down Main Street. The business district welcomes you with antique malls and shops, a candy kitchen that offers soda ice cream and confectionery as well as a beautifully restored railroad depot. As the “Gateway to Lincoln Log Cabin State Park”, Greenup is also home to a hand dug well that Lincoln and his family dug while waiting for wagon repairs in town. The Cumberland County Fair brings the town into fall with good food, fair rides, and more. Lost Creek Orchard and Earthborne Farm open their doors for cider and pumpkins just as the Fall Festival kicks off. Overlooking the Embarras River Valley and hillside, Cameo Vineyards offers a resemblance of California wine country. To check out more that Greenup has to offer, click here.
